The Chicks Explore the World
This past week has been a special time on our farm. Our chicks, lovingly raised by us, ventured outside for the first time. It was a beautiful sight to see them scratching around and exploring their new environment. They are growing fast, and we enjoy their energetic presence.
Daily Fresh Harvest
We now enjoy fresh vegetables from our garden daily. The cucumbers are growing abundantly, and we harvest several each day. The pumpkin plants are heavy with beautiful fruits, promising a bountiful harvest.
The Heat and Raggel
The heatwave that has plagued us for a long time finally seems to be coming to an end. From an unbearable 104°F, the temperature has dropped to a more tolerable 95°F. Despite this, it's still tough for our oldest horse, Raggel. She struggles with the heat and is unfortunately losing weight. We are doing our best to keep her comfortable during these extreme conditions.
Abundant Harvest and Delicious Dishes
Our efforts in the garden are richly rewarded. We have so many cucumbers that we're pickling a large portion of them. We also harvest Swiss chard, kale, beets, carrots, the first pumpkins, onions, zucchinis, snap beans, and wax beans. The zucchinis are so abundant that we are making delicious zucchini fritters.
Expansion for the Chickens and Help from the Goats
The laying hens are enjoying a larger coop, giving them more space to scratch around. Meanwhile, our goats are helping by clearing a large part of the future garden area. This will make it easier to prepare the ground for new plantings later on.
Compliments from Neighbors and Friends
Our garden has received many compliments from neighbors and friends. They call it a green oasis in an otherwise increasingly parched landscape. This means a lot to us and motivates us to keep doing what we do.
Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring Others
Besides working in the garden, we are also busy helping others become more self-sufficient. We share our knowledge and experience on how to live off your own garden, and soon we will be sharing more information to inspire and support even more people.
It has been a week full of effort but also full of satisfaction. Seeing the plants grow and flourish, the animals enjoying their space, and sharing our knowledge gives us the motivation to keep going. We look forward to the coming weeks and hope for an even larger harvest and many more beautiful moments on our farm.
We wish you all a fruitful and green week ahead!
Warm regards,
Suzanne
